Subject	paint prep: vin badged taped or removed?

Message	I was just curious what everyone does if they paint their bay or the area where the vin badge is? If I'm not mistaken, it is riveted onto the metal, so the easiest thing would be to tape it. However, when I see others' paint jobs, I question if they didn't somehow remove it and then paint...
